Stony Holme fly the Flag for Cumbria.

Excellent Result For Stony Holme

Huddersfield Golf Club were the host for the England Golf Champion Club over the weekend of 22/23rd September 2018, where Stony Holme Golf Club flew the flag for Cumbria. Stony Holme, so often the minnows of team golf in Cumbria for many years, have made massive steps forward in recent years to show the County what they have to offer at this lovely golf club.

The team of Rory Thompson, Nicky Bell and John Longcake went to the competition with high hopes and bags of confidence that they could deliver the goods at this National Competition. This Stony Holme team showed us that they weren't afraid of any team in Cumbria and were ready to show everyone they weren't a flash in the pan. The weather played its part with hard strong blustery winds along with fast undulating greens making them tricky to read.

Rory Thompson's 69 & 73 would give a magnificent score of level par for the competition.Placing him 6th after day 1. John Longcake posted 79 & 73 to leave him in 35th Place with a 152 total. Nicky Bell was 37th with 75 & 77 giving him 152 total also.Overall Cumbria came 6th with 446 which was an excellent performance for the team. Said Rusty Douglas the ever present Team manager " Rory had a good knock level over 2 days, the cake came back from a disappointing day 1 were he wasn't getting the rub of the greens and was catching bad lies, so he came back very well. Nicky was consistent and played better than his scores suggested. Thanks to the caddies and thanks to Cumbria Golf, it was a great experience for Stony Holme and we represented Cumbria very well finishing 6th overall."

We endorse your comments Rusty ,very well done.
