Cumbria wins the Solway Salver

A beautiful morning at Eden golf club was the venue for this years Solway Salver match between Cumbria and South of Scotland.

The new County Captain (Nev Johnstone) brought into the squad a couple of new pairings.

The pairing of Bowe and Spence was split to bring in Jon Clarke  of Furness and Nicky Bell had an experienced Paul Jenkinson onboard.

The morning foursomes set Cumbria off to a decent start with a 4/2 lead going In for lunch.

The afternoon didn’t start too well with Kieran Waters losing his match but Will Bowe began the charge with a win over Clark Riddick of 6/5.A remarkable comeback after a major back operation in the closed season left us all wondering if he would return to form afterwards. Obviously we needn’t have worried.

Will Bowe’s win was followed by Luke Walker of Ulverston with another win 3/2

A half off Richard Mewse and 3 consecutive wins off Darren Whitfield, James Atkinson and Rob Spence meant that the Cumbrian's couldn’t be beaten.Unfortunately Jon Clarke lost but 4 more wins from Jopson ,Wolstencroft (5/4),Paul Jenkinson and Nicky Bell in the final match gave the Cumbrian team a resounding 13 1/2 - 4 1/2 win.
