County Strokeplay Championships R1 Rules
TERMS OF COMPETITION
1. Rules of Golf
1.1 All Championships shall be played in accordance with the Rules of Golf and such Local Rules and Terms of the Competition as shall be approved by Cumbria Golf Union. Guidelines issued from England Golf regarding COVID-19 will be adhered to.
1.2 In the case of entry by a golfer with disability, he can apply to England Golf for adoption of the Modification of the Rules for Golfers with Disability.
2. Eligibility
2.1 All players must be of Amateur Status as defined by The Rules of Amateur Status.
2.2 All players must be a member of a golf club affiliated to the Cumbria Golf Union or be born within the county and be a member of a golf club affiliated to England Golf.
2.3 In possession of a competition “c” handicap not exceeding 12.4 under the CONGU Unified Handicapping System.
3. Format
3.1 The Championship shall be played over 72 holes of strokeplay golf limited to 72 players with handicaps of 12.4 or better. First days play of 36 holes to be completed in 3 balls at 10min intervals. The field to be reduced to top 40 and ties after first day’s play, providing a minimum of 18 holes has been completed. Where fewer than 18 holes can be completed on the first day, all competitors will be invited to compete in the second days play at their original starting times. The second days play of 36 holes to be completed in 2 balls at 8-minute intervals. Players starting times to be in order of decreasing totals from first day’s scores. The Championship will only be awarded providing a minimum number of 36 holes over 2 days have been completed. In the event of gross score ties for first place, the Championship will be decided by a sudden death strokeplay play off. The holes to be determined by the CCC. Ties for all other places will be decided by card play-off (last 36 holes, then last 18 holes, then last 9 holes) After which prizes will be shared.
3.2 The winner of the County Strokeplay Championship for 2020 shall be the competitor who returns the lowest GROSS score over 72 holes.
3.3 The winner of the Tufty Blair Trophy for 2020 shall be the competitor who returns the lowest NETT score over 72 holes. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by card play off using the scores from previous rounds until an outright winner is found.
4. Entries
4.1 A maximum of 72 competitors shall play in the championship.
4.2 Entries must be made online at the Cumbria Golf Union website: -
www.cumbria-golf-union.org.uk.
In order to enter online, a competitor must possess a CDH (Central Database of Handicaps) ID number. Payment will be taken when the online entry is submitted. Unsuccessful entrants will be refunded to the same card after the closing date.
4.3 Entries by telephone are not accepted.
4.4 No entry fee will be refunded unless written/email notice of withdrawal is received before the closing date, with the exception of an entrant who has been balloted out.
4.5 It is the player’s responsibility to ensure that their exact handicap on the CDH is up to date. Cumbria Golf Union shall take no responsibility for any out of date handicap used for balloting purposes.
4.6 All entries shall be subject to the approval of the Championship Committee, which reserves the right to accept, refuse, or cancel any entry without giving reason for its decision. The Committee’s decision shall be final. In such cases, any entry fee will be refunded.
4.7 Ballot: If entries exceed 72 a ballot will take place, eliminating the higher handicaps by ballot or in such other way as the Championship Committee shall determine. Players eliminated by ballot will be kept on a reserve list. If such players are not subsequently offered a place or are unable to accept such an offer, entry fees will be returned.
4.8 The closing date is Sunday the 12/07/2020 with exceptions at the discretion of the CCC. If an early or Late Tee Time is required, we will try to accommodate.

5. Withdrawals
Withdrawals will only be accepted if:
5.1 Written confirmation is received in writing via email to acpmclean57@outlook.com
5.2 If a player withdraws prior to the closing date a full refund will be given. In the event of a player withdrawing after the closing date the entry fee will not be refunded.
6. Reserves
6.1 A reserve list will be maintained and managed by the Championship Committee. Should a place or places in the draw become available, reserves will be invited to play in the order they are listed on the reserve list.
6.2 In order to ensure a full field for The Championship and at the sole discretion of the Championship Committee, a reserve or reserves may be offered a place.
7. Registration
Players must register their intention to compete in the Championship 15 Minutes prior to their allocated tee time on day 1 (Saturday).
8. Starting Procedure, When to Start Round
8.1You MUST start at (and not before or after) your starting time.
Penalty for Breach of Rule: - is Disqualification. Refer to Rule 5.3a for exceptions.
8.2 Players must report to the first tee 10 mins before their tee time.
9. Inclement Weather
If, in the opinion of Cumbria Golf Union, it becomes impossible to complete the Championship in accordance with that Championship’s Conditions because of adverse weather or other circumstances, Cumbria Golf Union may vary the format to the extent necessary to achieve a result within the time available.
10. Winners, Prizes, Decision of Ties
10.1 The Winners will be presented trophies at the prize presentation.
10.2 Prize vouchers shall be awarded to Top 6 Gross Places & Top 3 Nett Places
10.3 Ties for prizes will be decided on a count back as in 3.1
10.4 A player may NOT win more than 1 prize.
