CUMBRIA UNION SENIORS
2007 TEAM SPONSOR \ SAMPOOL CARAVAN PARK.

The Cumbria Union of Golf Clubs Seniors is an affiliated association of the Cumbria Union of Golf Clubs and we work closely with that organisation reporting to their committee on a regular basis. Our association was formed in 2001 to give senior (55 years and over) golfers with low handicaps the opportunity to play golf on a scratch basis against other low handicap golfers from the other Northern Counties. We now have matches against Cheshire, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland and Yorkshire plus fixtures against the Cumbrian Juniors and the Cumbrian Ladies teams. We also enter a six man team in the Northern Counties team competition and from this competition teams to represent the Northern Counties are selected to play matches against Scotland and the Midlands. Through our associasion new friendships and acquaintances have developed and members have entered and travelled to the Northern, English, Scottish, Irish and British Senior Championships. We are always looking for low handicapped senior golfers, who enjoy a competitive but friendly tussle with like minded golfers to join us, but a warning if your handicap slips to nine at the end of the golfing year you are culled but can return if you bring your handicap back to 8. At the moment the Chairman selects the team and the policy of the association is to select strong teams with the lower handicap players receiving more games than the higher handicap players but it is attempted to give as many of our members as possible at least one game per season. We hope you are interested in joining us and the only cost to you will be a match fee when selected to play plus normal travel and meal costs. The Cumbria Union of Golf Clubs Seniors at present we have a senior squad of 38 players aged over 55, with a maximum handicap of 8.4
We held our AGM on Monday 15TH October 2007 at Kendal golf club.
This meeting was originally planned for September, together with an afternoon competition. Unfortunately the lack of attendees did not justify holding the competition or the AGM. Kendal Golf club kindly agreed to us postponing the AGM until October. The AGM attendance was still very disappointing, but nevertheless went ahead with those present providing a lively debate and support of the agenda. It is hoped that all members of the association will endeavour to make note of the date of this years AGM and make every effort to attend. The Chairman Mr Andrew Morrison and Secretary Mr Alan Shaw were both re elected for two years. A proposal to consolidate the seniors association within the County Union of Golf Clubs was approved unopposed. The association looks forward to being an integral part of the county and playing its part in promoting golf throughout the region. The committee were also re elected en bloc for one year, Mr Peter Cresswell, Mr Ron Gough and Mr Allen Sutton. A new early season pair’s competition was confirmed to take place in April at Furness Golf Club. This will hopefully get the season underway and enable new and existing members to get together before the matches start in earnest.
