Whilst Greg Waters and Neil Wilson beat John Longcake & John Carr 1 up, Mike Jack and Keiron Waters were soundly beaten by 3 holes by Messrs Gordon & Hodgson. Hosts Kirkby Lonsdale were beaten 2 up by defending champions Workington for whom Will Bowe and Jack McRea recorded a 5up victory over Shuttleworth and Deal.
In Round 2, Kendal A emerged as winners over Penrith A 2 up. Windermere A were able to dispatch the Seascale team by a margin of 6 up. In the third quarter final, Silloth A soundly beat Barrow A by 10 up, with Longcake & Carr recoding a 6 up win over Wall & Evans. In the final match the two teams could not be separated a the 18th , when Jack McRae's putt lipped out to deny Workington a victory by the narrowest of margins. On the 19th hole, 14 year old Adam Chapman of Windermere hit a monstrous drive , which courted disaster at the stream crossing the fairway, stopping 2 yards short. His partner Andrew Millray chipped it to a yard and Adam slotted the putt for birdie. Workington's Cowen & Pearson could only record a par. In the final match, both teams recorded a par, resulting in a win for the Windermere A team.
In the finals on 1st August at Windermere Golf Club, Kendal A will play Windermere B, with Silloth A confronting Windermere A in the other semi-final. Both Kendal and Silloth will be out to prevent an all Windermere Final at Windermere. A fascinating prospect!
